the collection, transportation, and disposal of waste generated by households, commercial establishments, and industries. The city has a population of over 1 million people, and waste management is a crucial issue for the city’s administration.

  • Waste collection 

The municipal corporation of hubli is responsible for waste several zones, and each zone has designated works who collet waste from households and commercial establishments. The corporation also provides bins and dustbins to households and commercial establishments to store  the waste before it is collected


There are several steps taken by the local authorities and civic organizations in Hubli to manage waste effectively.

Segregation of waste: The Municipal corporation has implemented a waste segregation program where citizen are encourage to segregate their waste at the source into dry and wet waste. This makes  it easier to manage the waste and reduces the amount of waste going to landfills.

Door -to door collection: The city has a door-to door collection system for both ary and wet waste.The waste is collected in segregated bins and transported to the processing plant.


  • Dumping and its type

Open dumping: 

In this method, waste materials are dumped in open low lands far away from the city. This method is not environment friendly.

Sanitary landfill: 

In this method, the waste is packed and dumped daily at the site and is covered with earth to prevent insects or rodents from entering into the landfill. The waste then is subjected to bacterial decomposition.

  • Dumping of wastes

Dumping or Land Filling is an old way of disposing off wastes. It is an easy method of disposal of dry refuse. In this process, solid wastes are dumped in a low lying area and as a result of bacterial action, refuse decreases considerably in volume and are converted gradually into humus.
